SMR is a model agency in Chongqing, China. They hold their model competition every year to find the next supermodel for the industry. This year (2019) they are collaborating with Whatever Design Office and companies with local impact to bring the competition together. The competition is targeting young college students in South-West China, and we called it the Chuan Yu area in China.
Whatever Design Office is an interior design studio with vitality. They are in charge of the design in this project; they needed an art director to lead the project and bring the brand to life; they reached out to me. Essentially they wanted something visually strong, bold, and vivid, which is eye-catching enough to the young audience. Whatever Design Office themselves as the rising design studio in the area, they wanted to use this opportunity, with the exposure from the media, to stimulate the design industry in that part of China, pushing the industry moving forward.
By watching the past competitions they held, models' movement on the stage inspired me to create visuals from it.
By using abstract body shape, transform to the geometric shape. The geometric shape represents the models' beloved stages. The movement came to life from the screen, and it gave the system the elegant elements to work on the motion graphics for the brand. SMR thinks this year's visual is a major step-up compared to past years, and they are already to promote this to the public.
